This Project concerns the articulation of the Newtown massacre, as depicted in the TV-debate between journalist and TV-host Piers Morgan and executive director of Gun Owners of America, Larry Pratt. In order to analyze the articulation of the debate, discourse theory of Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau is used. Furthermore social constructionism, as depicted by Vivien Burr, is used as a theoretical foundation. Finally, the project contains a discussion of the results from the discourse analysis of the debate. The discourses used by Pratt and Morgan is discussed as a part of a historical context and in relation to Michel Foucault’s view on power. The project concludes the several essential discourses depicted in the debate, mostly by Pratt. The essential discourses, as presented by Morgan and Pratt, is in relation with Freedom, History and Evil, and it is furthermore in relation to an American discourse.
