Studenteropgave: Kandidatprojekt

This paper addresses the municipality of Copenhagen’s strategy for urban nature from 2015 to 2025 and its impact on the municipality’s visions and views on urban nature’s role in the modern and livable city. The paper also draws in the draft leading up to the final strategy as well as the subsequent hearing of the draft. The method of discourse analysis used to decode the discourses within the strategy, draft and hearing re- sponses. These are analyzed based on Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional theory of critical discourse analysis for communicative contexts.
The analysis and following discussion show two main points. The first one is that the strategy displays obvious signs of being affected by branding of Copenhagen. It there- fore contains tendencies to see urban nature as utility value for the municipality. The second one is deriving from the use of discourse analysis and shows a minimal differ- ence in the orders of discourses: The human-centered and the nature-centered. The two orders tend to blend together, thus showing the difficulty of dividing urban from nature.
