The purpose of this report has been to examine which role the achievement-oriented society have in the increasing number of stress-affected young people, as well as the consequences that it may have on an individual level. We have attempted to highlight this development of society, including the political initiative, ‘Uddannelsesloftet’. In addition to this, we have used sociologist Anders Petersen and his contemporary diagnosis of the achievement-oriented community as well as sociologist Rasmus Willig and his description of the critique's development in society today. Similarly, we have used sociologist Anthony Giddens and his theory of how individuals shape their identity and what challenges may be related to this. To illustrate this development, we have collected semi-structured interviews to gain an insight into the individual's experience of the issue this project examines. We have supplemented with quantitative data to support the experiences described by the informants. Based on these considerations about the described development, it can be concluded that the prevailing achievement-oriented society plays a role for the informants we have interviewed, which can lead to consequences at the individual level. Furthermore, we have come to the conclusion, that ‘Uddannelsesloftet’ has both positive and negative consequences in the sense that, for some, it has given a clear sense of what they want with their lives, while others have been an unnecessary stress factor in the plan for their future lives.
