The purpose of the project will mainly be to generate a solid understanding of how, the organizational configuration of Ungdommens Røde Kors helps shape the motivation of its volunteers. More specifically the project will address how the tutorship branch of the NNØ area in Copenhagen is constituted. By doing so, the intent is to illuminate some of the core challenges Ungdommens Røde Kors faces, when dealing with its voluntary workforce. The study applies Henry Mintzberg theory on organizational configurations to determine how the structures of Ungdommens Røde Kors are affecting its volunteers. This also serves as a catalyst, targeting the cultural dimensions of the topic. This will be conducted through Mary Joe Hatch´ view of cultural dynamics within an organization. By employing Niklas Luhmann´s theories regarding trust in orginizations, the project will be illustrating some of the key challenges Ungdommens Røde Kors is facing with its current configuration. Finally the project will include a motivational dimension by using both, E. Gil Clary´s six functions and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi theory of FLOW. These will address the motivation of the volunteers through root motives and the work itself. The study concludes that both the organizational structure and culture of Ungdommens Røde Kors, is constituted by a configuration that serves little to actively facilitate the motivation of its volunteers. Even though the current structure demonstrates a flat organization with decentralised decision-making mechanism, Ungdommens Røde Kors fails to create transparent configuration. Arguably this creates a state of distrust between the voluntary workforce and the managing parts of the organization. Lastly the project tries to cultivate these dimensions by giving Ungdommens Røde Kors an area of focus that the organization can choose to pursue, in order to create a more coherent business model.
