This project follows the development of an e-learning system that we develop for the compa-ny Conson A/S. Conson A/S sells home and building automation systems. The purpose of the project is to introduce the business’ electrical contractors to the product: the Concept 2000XP. In order to identify how best to configure the e-learning system, we examine electri-cal contractors’ propensities and challenges in learning, as we emphasize that our system should be tailored to fit the needs of individuals. To maximize the potential and surmount challenges, we employed qualitative research methods including interviews and structured observations. Rich and revealing empirical data were collected, allowing our team to gain insight into the electrical contractors’ workplace environment. We additionally examined electrical contractors’ learning practices in the workplace and modeled predictions as to what kind of influence the e-learning system might have on the existing workflows and learning methods. System development thus focused on embedding itself in existing settings and rela-tive to the electrical contactors’ learning abilities so to capitalize upon prior knowledge and competencies.
