Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

The project discusses some of the predominant currents in late Renaissance period Europe, emphasizing a specific case while maintaining an overall view on the mentalities of the period. Tyge Brahe has been used as the case study in the report because of his exceptional position in society. The report focuses mainly on the cultural, religious and political currents in late 16th Century Denmark and Tyge Brahe’s sudden departure from Denmark to Prague because of these. Due to the fact that he was of noble linage Tyge Brahe had, in many ways, a lead in the social hierarchy to pursue his passion for the scientific field. Although by engaging in an academic career he diverged from the norm expected from the nobility, Tyge Brahe saw it necessary to connect himself with a patron. Dependency on patron Tyge Brahe has been the main object of the reports had an enormous impact on both Tyge Brahes’s private life and – more importantly for us - his career. He was engaged in three such arrangements: First with King Frederik II of Denmark, thereafter with King Christian IV of Denmark and lastly with the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II.
