This paper will examine how the American President Donald Trump’s communication on Twitter is positioning himself and his political opponents in the political landscape of the USA. This is done based on the works of Norman Fairclough by conducting a thorough critical discourse analysis performed on a varied selection of tweets from the first months following his inauguration. In the analysis it becomes evident that Trump constitutes himself as a democratic man of the people, while he describes his opponents as part of a corrupt Establishment that is the enemy of the American People. Furthermore, the paper will submerge into Trumps representation of reality as well as go in depth with his communicative characteristics on Twitter.
