This paper examines how the concept of belief can be understood in the framework of the existentialistic thought. First we uncover different thoughts on the matter of belief by using the theories of Søren Kierkegaard, William James, Mircea Eliade. Furthermore we use Johannes Sløk and his interpretation of existentialism to substantiate and bring focus to the main question of this paper. Our discussion have brought us around the broad spectre of belief and existentialism firstly by criss-crossing our used theories and enlightening where they partially agree and where their thoughts collide in difference and secondly placing these theories in the existentialistic frame. Last we will study the nature of the phenomena belief in real life by group interviewing people with different views on belief and religion to come even closer to understanding belief in praxis. Our conclusion does not bring absolute answers but somewhat clarifies how different views on the concept of belief can live up to the meaningful potential that existentialism claims to offer.
