Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This thesis examines the planning of sustainable transition in the Danish energy sector. The issue revolves around the cur- rent way of planning, which is not sufficient in order to achieve the necessary political goals of sustainability. The current way of planning is embedded in a neoliberal dis- course, which contributes to a planning strategy with a focus on economic growth and free market reigns. This does not appeal to the sustainable energy sources, seeing as they are not as developed as the fossil fuels. It is therefore crucial to change to an alternative planning approach in order to tran- sit to 100% sustainable energy. The approach in the thesis is solution-oriented in order to propose an alternative planning strategy towards sustainable transition. This will be sought through by analyzing the Danish Climate and Energy Policy 2013 and The Danish National Allocation Plan 2014. The thesis will furthermore study the aspect of niche technology in a sociotechnical perspective of the energy sector. In this, the thesis examines how solar cells as an ex- ample of a niche technology is integrated as an energy re- source with the best possible approach. The problem is sought answered by using different statements from different actors in the energy arena, an NGO, a business company and a scientist. The thesis has a critical study approach to the empirical ma- terial and confronts it with the alternative planning strategy; Transition Management. This is done, to see if Transition Management could work as a new way of planning. The conclusion of the thesis points out, that Transition Man- agement is a possible future planning strategy towards a 100% sustainable energy sector. The use of Transition Man- agement as a new planning strategy will therefore be of im- portance in a future transition towards sustainability. In do- ing so, niche technologies like solar cells will be of greater importance. However, this demands radical changes in the current neoliberal political way of thinking and nonetheless sustainable transition needs to be the no. 1 priority, in order for Transition Management to be fully implemented.
