Studenteropgave: Bachelorprojekt

Abstrakt

This project is an investigation of DR’s (Danish Broadcasting corporation) Når 2 køn ikke er nok (When 2 genders are not enough), a 2016 documentary, which portrays transgender people dealing with everyday issues. Working within the approach of post structuralism, this project’s aim is to identify the limitations and hindrances that the binary gender system poses to transgender people in the Danish society. Through a narrative analysis of the documentary, and with the use of a theoretical framework of Judith Butler, this project seeks to do an in-depth analysis of the specific limitations and hindrances that are brought to light herein.
It is concluded that a broad range of limitations and hindrances are experienced by transgender people, but it all leads back to the perception of gender being founded in the heterosexual matrix, and as such transgender people fail to perform accordingly, within the binary frames. The hindrances of transgender people thus come to be them failing to repeat the heteronormative norms, which constitutes them as deviant.
