Abstract: For what benefit? This paper aims to investigate the effects of the latest Danish unemployment policy. The reformation of the welfare system’s unemployment benefits holds specific implications for the citizens in the age category of 18-30 years, who now have to be of benefit to the remainder of society. The study is focused on a mini-ethnography that sheds light upon the human consequences of being in the latest established “jobs of benefit” for the unemployed youth of Copenhagen. We discover that this public practise supports the production of citizens in a phase of non-being which supports the creation of stigmata, lack of social recognition, a space without purpose and a desolation of time.
