Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Resume This project examines how newcomers from Copenhagen assign meaning to Odsherred in regard to the physical environment, the activities and the communities. The project takes its offset in a phenomenological perspective. The empirical data is derived on six qualitative interviews and the analysis is based on our understanding of "place" as it is presented in the work of Yi-Fu Tuan and Edward Relph. Relph's theory of attachment, is used in combination with Tuan's theory of place and the collected empirical data, to identity the establishment of attachment to places and the creation of place identity. With this approach we illustrate how attachment to Odsherred is established and how the informants create the identity of Odsherred as a place. The analysis shows, that our informants need 'insideness', a term used by Relph, through physical environment, activities or inclusion in a community, in order to obtain attachment to Odsherred. The study also shows, that the informant’s experiences of Odsherred varies, depending on geographical and social location.
