The role of 3D Virtual Reality and Touchless Input Technology in Library Wayfinding

There is a clear affirmation that library users have difficulties to locating books and other material and often demanded efficient ways that helps them in navigation and wayfinding. This is an interesting area that requires more thorough investigation. This research attempted to evaluate if designing a 3D virtual environment of a library can help in wayfinding in library to locate the books. In this 3D virtual environment user can navigate in virtual library world, can interact with different objects exists in virtual environment e.g shelves and books. A very distinct feature of this study is to provide users a facility to make efficient and effective interaction with the book. User can open a book, read and flip around few pages of a book in virtual environment. This study employed new touchless input technology, leap motion, to introduce new ways of interaction with a computer. A key step is to perform a formative evaluation methodology to take the user preferences into consideration to build more usable next generation product.
