This report is an inquiry into the maintenance of social memory within the public education system in the US Virgin Islands (USVI). Specifically, this study seeks to inquire into the perceptions of public school teachers regarding the challenges presented to preserving local historical and cultural awareness, and well as the educational methods applied in doing so. The study applies oral history and social memory as theoretical framework. Narrative-based qualitative inquiry into the perceptions of five individuals employed in the USVI public educational institution is carried out, and analysis of the data is conducted through the employment of Systematic Text Condensation.
