This review attempts to map out existing literature on how technological advances could influence work in the future. It draws on two main theories, that of Neoliberalism and Marxism, examining the differences in argumentation and reasoning. It furthermore delves into how various methodological approaches estimate the risk of job replacement and automation, relying heavily on quantitative data, history and case studies. Lastly, gaps in the literature are identified, namely that of gender, geography and ecology and ideas for potential further research.
