Studenteropgave: Fagmodulprojekt

This project report investigates to what extent the Ukraine crisis can be explained as a case of unintended consequences of EU’s external actions in Ukraine. The main EU objectives have been identified through EU documents such as the European Neighbourhood Policy, the Association Agreement and the Eastern Partnership. The main objectives are the economic and political cooperation and the promotion of EU liberal values. Next, the outcomes of the European Union foreign policy are identified in order to compare them to initial aims. Furthermore, the project report includes a critical analysis using the analytical framework to identify whether the consequences were intended or not, anticipated or not, and expected or not. The conclusion shows, that there are links between the Ukraine Crisis and EU’s action in the region, however other factors have been identified. Russia’s economic and political interest and their direct interference in Ukraine, as well as a complex political climate in the region have contributed to the outbreak and escalation of the Ukraine conflict.
