The combined causes of Colony Collapse Disorder in Honey bees

This report details a project with the goal of investigating suspected causes of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) in a literature study, and to attempt to determine as to whether or not the different suspected causes (stressors) potentially interact with one another or affect honey bees in such a manner as to increase the effectiveness of one another to the deficit of honey bees. This project examined the available academic literature and conducted a statistical analysis based on surveys conducted in the USA of honey bee colony concerning stressor lethality and frequency. The findings of this project suggest a set of possible interactions between pesticides, Varroa destructor mites and monoculture farming potentially negatively impacting honey bee health, which are suspected to be at least partly responsible for CCD, although no firm evidence to support these interactions was found.
