Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Arab Uprisings had many aspects that previous demonstrations and protest did not experience such as large influence of social media and therefore it is very essential to analyze how did civil society impact on the Arab Spring Revolutions in different countries and why is the corresponding conflict in Syria on going. Theories of civil society and social movements are used to examine the events and argue whether these theories are still relevant with all these new aspects. This thesis finds out that there are many similar factors and historical background for the uprisings. The main cause of the events is economic grievances caused by actions taken by the regimes in each respective country and also the lack of social justice. Nevertheless each country has its own special differences.
