This project examines how Hoptrup Efterskole and particularly their theatre education create room for learning and development. In the project we have produced comprehensive fieldwork including interviews, observations, informal conversations and student journals, and through this we have gained insight in how the students experience the possibilities of learning and development. Based on our fieldwork and analysis we can conclude that the school has a distinct product-oriented approach which generates certain disciplinary and motivational effects and different kinds of practices. These practices create possibilities of learning different kinds of acting skills as well as social learning and personal development. The acting skills include character work, stage presence and understanding of theatrical processes. Social learning includes skills of cooperation, presentation and negotiation, and finally; personal learning involves development of confidence, courage, responsibility and creativity, amongst other qualities. The practices are, however, also producing various kinds of pressure on the students; pressure based on time, performance and expectations.
