This project seeks to examine whether Superkilen can be considered a multicultural venue. We chose to investigate the ‘Superkilen’ area which has recently been unveiled in the highly culturally diverse area of Copenhagen ‘Nørrebro’. We will argue that Superkilen is a possible venue for social interaction across ethnic boundaries, and on this basis analyse how urban planning can actively improve the process of positive meetings amongst different ethnic groups in a multicultural urban environment. For this we will need to analyse the social processes of urban interaction amongst strangers through observational studies at Superkilen, as well as investigate how urban planners seek to include various social and ethnic communities into the public space through documentary analysis of relevant data. This paper concludes on how the urban planning of Superkilen is too programmed for certain social functions, and might fail to include some ethnic communities.
