This project seeks to examine “Grundtvigs Højskole” as a health promoting environment and to investigate the issues associated with this setting. Through participant observation and semi structured interviews with students located at the school, we seek to discover the different settings within the environment. As its starting point the project evolves around health promoting theories by Mark Dooris, Aaron Antonovsky and John Andersen.
Through the analytic section of the paper, which utilizes a philosophical hermeneutic approach, it appears how the settings surrounding the school affect the development of the students in a health promoting relation. This includes the teachers, the activities, the meals as well as everything in between.
The consequences of this impact will be taken to further discussion to conclude in which way this setting is causing a health promoting development for the students. Furthermore, this paper critically seeks to discuss the structure of “Grundtvigs Højskole” as an institution, focusing on the “no exam” configuration, compared to the discourses that society contains.
