Abstrakt

This thesis examines a societal trend, namely, health promotion being implemented in the workplace in order to optimize its human resources and to promote the good life for its em-ployees. A trend that is also gaining ground in public enterprises. We perform an empirical analysis investigating the impact a health promotion project imple-mented in two public companies has on employees. How can the focus on employee health be understood from perspectives on social power mechanisms and health as a discourse? And how do these factors contribute to position employees in certain ways determined by their unhealthy characteristics? The thesis takes its theoretical point of departure in post-structuralist and social construction-ist theory. The constitution of cognition through language, along with the concept of situated knowledge developed by Donna Haraway represents the theoretical framework, and the ana-lytics of power drawn by Michel Foucault combined with positioning theory by Bronwyn Davies and Rom Harré are pivotal points for the subject theory as well as the strategy of analysis pre-sented in the thesis.
