Abstrakt

The health trend has hit Denmark over the last ten years and has resulted in an increased focus on health, the body and its aesthetics. Meanwhile, social medias have become increasingly visualizing, and in extension hereof become a tool for portraying the healthy body, and so the use of healthies has become a rising trend on social medias. Healthies are pictures posted on social medias, showing food or individuals in a fitness setting. This project seeks to explore why some individuals choose to use healthies on social medias to portray themselves, and to uncover whether the use of healthies has an impact on these individuals’ understanding of health. In order to do so, we have conducted a focus group interview so as to survey a number of topics, after which the interviewees’ perceptions of health are analyzed and discussed with base in this interview. The ideas of the three theorists Nikolas Rose, Lars Geer Hammershøj and Erving Goffman are used to analyze these topics. Hereafter we discussed how it might influence the interviewees to be expected to live up to an unattainable health ideal, what their motives for posting healthies are, and how healthies might be influencing the mentality of the interviewees. Lastly we have discussed what kind of impact socializing and staging might have on the interviewees’ understanding of health in general. In the end we have concluded that healthies are capable of having both a positive as well as a negative influence on the interviewees’ perception of health.
