Studenteropgave: Fagmodulprojekt

Through comparative analysis, this paper seeks to examine and outline the dominating
understandings of the subject, that exists in the science of psychology. These understandings
are attached to certain paradigms of thought, in the development of psychology as a science.
In the latter part of psychology, postmodern psychologists such as Kenneth Gergen, operate
with an understanding of the subject, that differs from the paradigms of thought present in
modern psychology. Kenneth Gergen and postmodern relational theory, derives from
onthological and epistemological approaches, that are in contrast, but also expansions, to
earlier ways of understanding and developing knowledge of the subject. Thus the paper
examines the development of the different paradigms, and the ongoing different
understandings of the subject, centered around the present postmodern paradigm, and the
theories of Kenneth Gergen. In addition this paper discusses the problematic issue of the
treatment of people in our contemporary society, that derives on theory from a science, where
the discrepancy in the field of research is vast.
