This study examines which strategic issues might occur to the profiling of Roskilde University, when reducing the combination programs and restructuring the university campus. The objectives concerning the reduction in combination programs and the restructuring of campus, are set by the board at RUC, as arranged through their development contract with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science. To examine these objectives and their influence of the strategic profiling of RUC, the strategic circumstances concerning RUC must first be examined and outlined to create a basis for analysis. The analysis will take place in form of the strategic outline, and document analysis identifying relevant areas of research focus, which then will be complemented by an interview with vice-principal Peter Kjær, to provide a leader’s perspective on the development contract, and the possible effects it could have on the core values and competences as part of RUC’s strategic profiling. Furthermore, the analysis introduces a student perspective on some resources and competences that provide the competitive advantage to RUC as a competing organization in the higher education environment. The research concludes that the development contract creates strategic issues to the core values to some extent, as the focus of political cost reductions does not provide a strategic point of view.
