In this project, researchers seek to explore whether and how tools within the fields of marketing and strategy could be applied to a hypothetical startup building on ideas from the ‘Sharing Economy’. This paper deals with the implementation of such tools in the startup phase of the hypothetical business, ToolBox, which is set out to be part of the Danish hardware tool rental industry. This is done to aid future startups on decision making regarding which sales channel to opt for. The paper will present two sales channels of choice: Brick and Mortar, and E-commerce. Through the project, it becomes evident that the use of marketing and strategy tools could aid the startup phase of a business, regarding the completion of a thorough analysis of the market the startup wants to enter. As the conclusion to the hypothetical startup there is consent among researchers that marketing and strategy tools have led to concluding that a mixed strategy approach regarding its sales channel would be the most suitable solution for this startup venture.
