Abstrakt

This rapport examines why people in the modern society search for inner spiritual experiences, and whether it is possible to live a life of spirituality without loosing rationality or not. In the rapport theories of the human psyche by depth psychologist by Carl Gustav Jung, Sigmund Freud (used as main theorists), and Lionell Corbet, and theory about the human religious needs by psychologist and philosopher William James are used for analyzing and interpreting the problem. This has led to a discussion including the main theorists. Finally we have used them for describing the tendency of spirituality in modern society. Jungs finds that spirituality exist in the psyche, thus making us getting in touch with it. Freud on the other hand points to that people that search for spirituality are projecting their sickness onto it. The result is that people search for spirituality to find purpose in life. The conclusion is based on the theorists disagreement, which causes an unclear answer to the problem, since people find purpose in life in different ways.
