This paper seeks to examine the influence of social relations on young girls who lives and has lived in residential facilities for troubled girls. To outline this, the paper intends to use the qualitative method: semi-structured interview. The paper includes interviews with two girls who have lived in different kinds of residential facilities. Furthermore, an interview with a manager at a residential facility will be included. As a scientific methodical point of view the paper has sought inspiration from philosophical hermeneutics. Theories by Pierre Bourdieu, Kenneth Gergen and Axel Honneth will be used to examine our research question: “To which extend does the social relations of the youth at residential facilities have an influence on their life situation?” Moreover, the significance of the girls’ families will be examined. The paper also explores how the girls’ relationship outside the residences affects them. The paper furthermore examines dilemmas regarding a multitude of troubled young girls living in the same residence. Finally, the paper questions whether the employees of the residences help the troubled youths. In conclusion, the paper argues that social relations have a large impact on the life situation of the girls from the residential facilities. These relationships affect the residents in both positive and negative ways.
