This assignment engages in the use of smartphones with the youth in modern day society, with a view to the usage in public sphere. The research draws upon both academic articles, fieldwork and personal experience. The assignment accounts for the technological development behind the smartphone as well as an uprising tendency showing an extreme amount of usage of smartphones with the age range 18-25 year olds. Furthermore it contains a selection of theories and methods that serve to support our hypothesis. Here amongst a quantitative survey, qualitative interviews and fieldwork consisting of observation on the train station Nørreport. All are used with the purpose of obtaining information on our subject from various points of views. The assignment shows a remarkable rise in the amount of time people spend on their smartphone. Furthermore is concludes that the usage of smartphone to an extreme extend can have negative consequences for the individual.
