Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

The scope of this study is to enlighten the reader on the possible effects of smartphone usage in
regard to behavior and perception of the world around the user. The study is not aiming to solve a
problem, but rather to enlighten a specific subject matter. We chose this subject for our study
because smartphones are a very widespread technology and we have a hypothesis that the
smartphone can affect our behavior in a social setting. Therefor the goal of this study is to try and
answer whether that is actually the case. The study will draw upon the theory about dramaturgy
from Erving Goffman, as well as the scientific theory, postphenomenology. We will combine these
theories into one hybridization of the two. This hybridization is called techne-dramaturgy and will
be the basis for the analysis. The analysis will besides techne-dramaturgy draw upon the empirical
data which we have collected. This data comes from qualitative interviews and observations.
Furthermore, both the interviews and observations are collected from two specific case areas. The
study ends with a discussion, where we discus both our answers from the analysis, but also the
ability to apply the different parts of the techne-dramaturgic model.
