Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

The interest about this project has occurred on the basis of the debate about how the communication for patients is shaped in the Danish health system. Most of the debate has been concerned about the oral communication, while the written communication has been left aside. We have been aware of the fact that it has been difficult for some patients to understand the pamphlets, due to the fact that it is often written in a medical language. During the project we will be examining the written communication for patients in the shape of a pamphlet for patients diagnosed with endometriosis. We will examine if the pamphlet is understandable for the patient and thus appropriate communication through a textual analysis. This will be done on the basis of the model of communication analysis Det retoriske kompas which we have composed and shaped with additions of phrases from Leif Becker Jensen. Within this model of analysis, we will be focusing on parts inside and outside the textual features of the pamphlet, so that we are able to evaluate whether the written communication is appropriate or not. The evaluation is based on the project’s theoretical background and the group’s assessment criteria.

The conclusive evaluation is that the pamphlet somewhat fulfil the criteria, because of the use of language as well as the usage of personal application. The reason that it does not fulfil the criteria in a high extent, is because of the features such as problems with the pamphlets usage of chronology and the fact that the pamphlet should be divided into several different pamphlets for each case of endometriosis.
