Sexafhængighed - Mod en subjektiv forståelse af fænomenet sexafhængighed

Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This thesis is a study towards a subjective understanding of the phenonemon sex addiction. By subjective I refer to an understanding of sex addiction as an integrated part of the sex addict’s everyday life, but also as something connected to social conditions. The theoretical point of depature for the investigation is rooted in Critical Psychology combined with a anti-essentialistic approah inspired by post-structuralism. The investigation is based on an analysis of interviews with two self-proclaimed sex addicts from a Danish community of Anonymous Sex Addicts (SAA). The analysis is carried out from the sex addict’s first person perspective and hence the purpose of the analysis was to shed light on their lived experience as sex addicts. The analysis reveals a subjective understanding of their addiction as a disease characterized by an ability to overtake the control of their actions resulting in periods of unwanted intensive sexual activity. Their addiction was experienced as having severe consequences for their life in general as well in terms of how they conduct their everyday life. Moreover the analysis points towards a strong connection between their lives as sex addicts and their participation in SAA, something they articulated as the source to a better life as sex addicts. What seemed to be experienced as an expansion of agency I discuss if it also could be viewed as something also restricting their agency. While I acknowledge their participation in SAA as a cause of change I also argue that SAA’s view on sex addiction as an incurable disease influence their self-understanding hence making a life without an addiction to sex inconceivable
