Abstrakt

This project focuses on the government of individuals in contemporary society. More specifically, we probe the connections between the discourse of health and the self understanding of individuals within the culture of crossfit. We argue that the discourse of health is the foundation on which the thought of the body as something that should be moved and used is laid. Furthermore, we identify a transgression of the ideals of health in a certain group of crossfit practitioners who, albeit still subjects of the discourse of health, are governed by something more. Through the introduction of the term of a project-system as the successor of earlier systems of discipline and security, as they are suggested by Michel Foucault, we conclude that ideals of self-development and constant movement are predominant in the culture of crossfit. Thus, self-understanding and government of the self are less influenced by preset political programs and more by the shifting conditions that the project system institutes.
