Studenteropgave: Kandidatprojekt

This study explores whether self-management has any significance for the state of employees’ wellbeing and is steered by the philosophical hermeneutic. A comprehensive analysis of Richard Sennets theory about the flexible capitalism, Martin Seligmans theory about happiness and Flemming Andersens theory about self-management is conducted to determine the correlation to employees’ wellbeing.
A case study that focuses on Microsoft Denmarks work environment, is carried out to understand the dynamics of self-management on employees’ wellbeing in practice. Furthermore, this study discusses the advantages and disadvantages concerning self-management and how the employees’ leader correlates to the effects.
In conclusion, this project has determined that self-management has both positive and negative effects on employees’ wellbeing. For a positive outcome, the employer must take relevant precautions such as having a strong network that supports the self-managed employee, first then will the self-management find space to flourish. On the contrary, if these precautions are not met, the employer will experience that the employee’s wellbeing isn’t of a positive character.
