Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

The project is based on an interest to examine the cooperation and interaction between parents and professionals in the Danish state school. This particular study examines a co-operation in Brøndkilde Skole between a SSP teacher and the parents of fifth grade children. According to the SSP teacher, it is extremely difficult to motivate the parents to participate in events with the purpose of preventing the children from adopting undesirable behaviours. Our project investigates the following problem: Which psychological challenges can be identified in the cooperation between the SSP teacher and the parents? In order to investigate this problem, we made a participating observation of an arranged meeting between parents and the SSP teacher. Additionally, our research is based on interviews with the parents and the SSP teacher. To study the parents’ motivation to participate in the cooperation with SSP we make use of Klaus Holzkamp’s concepts of Critical Psychology and Edward Ryan and Richard Deci’s Self-determination theory. Furthermore we make use of Brownwyn Davies and Rom Harré’s theory of Discourse and Positioning, along with other scientific research of the subject. Supported by the aforementioned data and analysis, this research is able to conclude that the parents are influenced by their conditions of life, social relations, emotions, personal interests and values to participate in cooperation with SSP. Furthermore we can conclude that the cooperation between the SSP teacher and the parents are challenged by a mutual lack of knowledge and understanding between the two parties.
