Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This assignment describes the different matters of social life in urban spaces and urban design. In particular we focus on inactive urban spaces and we chose Søren Kierkegaards Plads as such. It describes different theories of city life, and use the information to analyse the plaza and its shortages and qualities. We use Lawson’s theories to describe our process of making the design. In our design we change the structure of the plaza, in order to combine the hard surface of the plaza with the soft surface of the water in the harbour. From theories of Gehl and Whyte we deduce that sitting spaces have an influence on a good plaza, and our analysis shows that there was a lack of these on Søren Kierkegaards Plads. So apart from focusing on water and including it in the structure, we focus on sitting spaces – especially the secondary ones. In order to develop our design so it harmonizes with the plaza, we use clean lines to blend in with the “less is more”-appearance of the plaza.
