Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In this socio-technical analysis of the search engine Google.com, we will try to determine if the engine has an ethical responsibility concerning its usage and way of handling private informations. To gain knowledge about Google Inc.’s history the books “The Googlization of everything (and why we should worry)” by Siva Vaidhyanathan and “Google historien” by David A. Vise are used. As for theory, Bruno Latour and his ANT method of analysis are used to define Google.com in a socio-technical system. From this perspective, ethical theory is applied from the book “Filosofi Etik”, where especially deontology and consequentialism is used in the analysis. Also different theoreticians like Langdon Winner, and his thoughts concerning technology ethics, and Louis Alvin Day, and his theory regarding forms of privacy is used. Through the knowledge of ANT, ethics and methods of these theoreticians, we can conclude that Google.com depending upon which philosophy you interpret, is more or less ethical responsible.
