Right to movement: Palestine marathon

Lars Erik Schmidt

Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In this project, I examined how sportsevent as Palestine marathon can help to make a bridge between the individual and the Palestinian society, and their universal rights in the Israel-Palestine conflict. Additionally, I have made an analysis, as well as discussed the opportunities and obsta-cles for the organization of sport, development and peace programs. In order to create a starting point for my analysis, I briefly explained the Israel-Palestine conflict and its challenges. In the analysis of my research question, I used Pierre Bourdieu and Robert D. Putnam's theories of social capital (from the individual and the group to the local community and the nation that creates new trustful network). Based on my analysis, I conclude that sport in conflict-affected areas can help to foster the community in societies and create economic growth.
