The project examines the Iranian revolution in 1979 and the Egyptian revolution from the 25th of January 2011 in a comparative perspective. Before the two revolutions societal, political and economical changes happened both in Iran and in Egypt. Therefore the frame of the project is modernization. The project is divided in a bipartite analysis and the first part examines structural factors which all are results of the societal modernization in the two countries. The structural factors are economical, political and demographical orientated. The aim is to compare which state respectively Iran and Egypt was in prior to 1979 and 2011. The second part of the analysis focuses on dynamical factors and deals with the two revolutions entrants. We examine who some of the leading social groups are, why they protest and start the revolution, and what their demands are. In the end we compare the Iranian protesters with the Egyptian ones to see how the two revolutions are alike.
