The purpose of this study is to explore how individuals with chronic pain conduct everyday living, and moreover how they are able to produce a meaningful life. Additionally, this study will explore which challenges subjects with chronic pain conduct in the postmodern society in a Danish context. The study has been conducted through the use of these different qualitative methods; everydayconversations, group conversation, self- reporting and self-observation. Different scientific theories have been used to capture the diversity and complexity of living everyday life as individuals with chronic pain; phenomenology, and concepts from critical psychology and critical theory. The goal of this study is to increase the amount of knowledge regarding individuals with chronic pain from a first-person perspective, how everyday life is managed, and how the societal institutions influence these conditions and determine the opportunities of actions. Through a phenomenology and critical analysis this study shows how social and societal frameworks influence the possibilities of achieving a meaningful life. Moreover how the paradigm of health creates a considerable amount of societal lack of recognition, which is experienced as violation and injustice to individuals with chronic pain. The results of this study are to be used to participate in the public debate on the living conditions of individuals with chronic pain, for the purpose of changing these. Moreover increase recognition and justice regarding people with chronic diseases over all. The result includes a proposal to change the paradigmatic biopsychosocial-understanding of illness to a bio-relieving-health understanding. Moreover a proposal of how to break the lack of recognition-process.
