This report deals with how ruthenium complex Ru (bpy) 2(NCS) 2] reacts when exposed to varying pyridines of different pKa values to gain an understanding of the rate of reaction. The main goal of the experimental analysis is to showcase the effect of the reaction and to answer our research question: to what degree does varying the pKa values of pyridine play in the reduction of ruthenium III complex to ruthenium II complex? And to find out what role pyridine and water play in the reduction of ruthenium complex, Ru (bpy) 2(NCS) 2]. We did this by using various experimental instruments such as electrolysis and stop-flow injection. We discuss and interpret our findings and conclude that the higher the pKa value of pyridine yields in a faster rate of reaction indicating that pyridine can be used as a catalyst for the reduction of Ru (bpy)2(NCS). However we cannot conclude whether the ruthenium complex has remained the same after comparing the LC-MS/HCPL of the starting complex to the end complex.
