This project highlights how a mentally ill individual's opportunities to recover has been affected by positioning and power and furthermore which elements has been contributing to further or impede the individuals recovery process. Recovery is an individual proces, in which the professionals assistence is given a lower priority, instead it is the individual and his/her own functioning in the process there is the main focus. Excisting litterature suggests that the psychiatry is positioning individuals as patients, whereas the individual behind the diagnosis is forgotten. Thus the purpose of this project is to investigate how the offered position ’patient’ has had for the individual and hence the individuals experience of this positioning. At last it will be investigated which elements there has been contributing to the individuals recovery. In order to answer our problemdefinition the qualitative method interview is used. A interview using a mentally ill individual whom has, in this case, been/is suffering from an eating dissorder. The results from the interview, as well as our field of research, recovery, forms the foundation for our analysis. Kenneth Gergen and socialconstructionism is utilized as our theory of science. Rom Harré & Luk van Langenhoven and their positioning theory, together with Michel Foucault and his theory of power are all utilized as our theoretical frame of reference. This project reaches the conclusion, that suggest that ’Amanda’, who has been in ambulant treatment shows awareness towards the positiong of herself as being ’ill’ and a ’patient’, but at the same time she felt as the individual behind the diagnose got noticed. Furthermore the interview shows that numeral elements to further recovery were present during ’Amandas’ recovery process.
