Abstrakt

The starting point for this project is to investigate how discourses regarding ethnic minority boys affect the learning processes that are a part of the crime prevention efforts under the Copenhagen municipality in Nørrebro. For this purpose, we have conducted interviews with professionals working with the boys and gathered relevant documents touching the subject. Subsequently, we analyzed the empirical data with Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis as our theoretical framework. Furthermore, we have supplemented our theoretical approach with Knud Illeris’ learning theory and an article about categorization by Ray McDermott. Our findings show, that the different categorizations and discourses about ethnic minority boys are affecting the learning strategies and processes in the crime prevention efforts in the municipality of Copenhagen.
