Abstract Psychological challenges will increase in line with the pressure on the performance that leaders, top executives or top athletes must perform. The pressure on top athletes, leaders and top executives has increased over the years, in the form of a professionalization or semi-professionalization of many sports and a hyper-complex, internationalized world where the trade in goods and services is squeezed on both time and quality parameters. How this group of individuals master these challenges depends on factors such as personal strategies and the surroundings or contexts that the individual is in. Individuals who master difficult challenges typically have preferences in the coping strategies they use. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to identify which coping strategies the two groups of respondents use, and to investigate whether there are common features or common elements in these strategies. The thesis contains to some extent a literature study, and I have studied research within the same area in relevant scientific databases. The hermeneutic research philosophy, together with qualitative research interviews, has been chosen as the methodological platform for the assignment, where six respondents form the basis of empirical material. At the theoretical level, the thesis is based on cognition and sports psychology, positive psychology, coping strategies and motivational theories. In the analysis, interpretation and discussion Lazarus & Folkmann is used as a basis for coping, combined with positive psychology, cognition theory and sports psychology as well as motivation. Through the empirical material, the thesis confirms that top athletes, leaders and top executives use different coping strategies and to a great extent strategies of a problem-focused nature when facing challenges or when achieving high performances. It is also confirmed that there are coincidences with the management strategies that the groups use in the performance and challenges they encounter in connection with their professional work. It has been found that the methods used for gathering, analyzing and interpreting the empirical material are quite suitable for creating a nuanced insight into the world and lives of the respondents.
