This paper investigates how empowerment can be facilitated through sociocracy. It builds its reasoning on findings of the Swedish Holma Folkhögskola, a school applying sociocracy, to draw out how empowerment is taking place in this case. The paper makes use of the three-dimensional power model by Lukes to interpret the data. It then reflects on the findings through a poststructuralist lens. The paper concludes that empowerment is facilitated through sociocracy only insofar as empowerment is empirically perceived as a re-distribution of power. As a poststructuralist view on power claims it to be fluctuating in relations, not being possessed or distributed, it is therefore argued that empowerment as such is not actually possible.
