This project discusses the process of the construction of national identity in the Plurinational state of Bolivia from an educational angle with a particular focus to the local, private school setting, the “Colegio Kurmi Wasi”. Based on Benedict Anderson and Anibal Quijano, Latin America’s history of colonization and the establishment of independent Nation states determined a specific pattern of power relation towards the construction of national identity through an imaginative, homogenous image of European domination upon the native population. Bolivia, as a country with a diverse population and vast geography is an interesting example, because of its recent major political shifts of the last decade. Since 2009 Bolivia holds a new constitution, which pledges for equal rights, citizenship and recognition of the indigenous population in the society in order to dismantle the colonial power structures that are still present in Bolivia today.
