Pro-choice and Pro-life Arguments in Argentina: A Philosophical View of the Debate on Abortion

This paper delves into the philosophical viewpoints of Argentina, arising from two opposing philosophers, Don Marquis and Judith Jarvis Thompson. The aim of this paper is to understand the said arguments and apply them to corresponding arguments from Argentine society, as the country has dealt with the topic of abortion for many years. The history of abortion laws goes back to the late nineteenth century and has since then had changes.

The current debate has recently created a spark following the new legislative proposal in 2018, which then was rejected. The debate, however, has continued and a new proposal was made in 2019. In recent days, protests from pro-choice activists and organizations have set in motion what could possibly bring a big change to the country of Argentina. Therefore, for the purpose of this paper, it is by the use of philosophical viewpoints and their analytical tools, to bring forth their moral arguments to better understand the debate as well as the core of the discussions that, not only pertaining to political and social arguments but philosophical as well.
