Studenteropgave: Kandidatprojekt

Abstrakt

With a social constructionist approach, this project aims at investigating how it can be problematic that student employees are expected to be flexible and adaptable, as they are often used as multifunctional tools that need to carry out whatever assignments given to them. It matters not that these assignments might not lie within their area of expertise or that it is not what they were hired to do, because since they are part-time student employees, they are placed wherever the firm needs them to be. This is a phenomenon, we would like to investigate. This is done by using Davies & Harré’s (1990-1999) theory of discursive production of selves, where we look at the discourse of how the employees talk about this phenomenon and how it affects them. Furthermore we also include John Atkinson’s (1984) understanding of flexibility in the workplace.
