Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In this project we wish to analyse the phenomenon of scandal by applying the danish politician Henriette Kjær’s case story as it appeared publicly in the years 2005 and 2011. We investigate how citizens, the group of political active and the media refer to or report about the case. We will investigate the influence of the media on the political life in general and highlight how the media specifically has influenced the particular case story of Henriette Kjær. We will answer our identified problem area by applying Norman Fairclough’s critical analysis methodology. Our theoretical analysis approach includes John B. Thompson’s scandal concept, McCombs’ priming and framing, Chantal Mouf-fe’s radical democracy and apologia concept, which points to modern political defense strategies. We wish the project to provide answers, which qualify to what extent the media is influencing the private-public nexus, democracy, gender and norms prior to determining if the Kjær case and the increase in similar scandals generally have initiated changes to social standards. The project is applying a political and so-cial scientific approach, providing an opportunity for investigation of both politi-cal effects, however, also individual consequences.
