The research project aims to investigate the perceptions by different age groups in regards of devel-oping technology. This is due to the increasing digitalization and enhancement of online communi-ties. The perceptions from the two age groups, which will be obtained via focus group interviews, will be understood in relation to Eisenstadt’s theory of age as a social construct with implementa-tion of the effects of digitalization. To narrow the focus of developing technology, a specific case will be under investigation, this being the NYTvr-app by the New York Times. Virtual Reality is implemented in the app, which demands Virtual Reality glasses in order to obtain the immersive experience. The two focus groups consist of 8 participants divided into age groups, being ‘Young adults’ ranging from the age of 23 to 33 and ‘Middle-aged’ adults ranging from the age of 50 to 60 years. The empirical data will be analyzed in relation to critical discourse analysis by Norman Fair-clough. The discourses within the text can help understand and discuss the perceptions of develop-ing technology as well as the perceptions of each other as age groups in relation to technology. As the case deals with a relatively recent news-platform, the research project also deals with the con-sumption of news in a Danish context. Moreover, this can be understood by the terms digital com-munities, social media and digitalization. The perceptions of developing technology, as well as age group expectation, influence future prospects in a societal manner due to future construction of norms and behavior in a digital world.
